Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Hornet family and the Panhellenic community! Panhellenic is the governing body for the three NPC sororities on ESU's campus. These sororities are Alpha Sigma Alpha, Chi Omega, and Sigma Sigma Sigma. Sorority life at Emporia State is like not like other universities you, and definitely not like the stereotypes depicted in the movies. Since ESU is a smaller campus, sorority life at ESU is also smaller which allows for a closer Panhellenic community and more opportunities for your daughter to flourish. So why Greek life? Why should your daughter "Go Greek"? One word; experience. The experience your daughter can gain will advance her academically, professionally, and personally. There are so many lessons outside the classroom that your daughter has to learn, and you as parents know this better than anyone. Women start out college with skills and values they have learned throughout their life, and sorority life teaches women to perfect these skills and enhances their ability to make decisions based off of their values. This training then follows them through life after college, in which they will not only have leadership experience, but will have an advantage in their career field over other applicants. Women make the memories of a lifetime with life-long friends, and will truly experience what it means to have a home-away-from home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Different factors affect what the cost will be for your student, such as what year your student is and what chapter she joins. Since ESU is a smaller University, the cost of being in a sorority will also be much lower. The best way to find out the exact amount is to contact the sorority's treasurer.

What is the cost?

Emporia State University enforces a strict No Hazing Policy. Hazing is not tolerated under any circumstances. Each chapter also has strict No Hazing policies with their national organization as well, and is enforced accordingly.

Do chapters take place in hazing?

Since joining a sorority is a huge step, be supportive and learn as much as you can by asking questions of your daughter prior to and throughout the membership recruitment process. Such as what she likes to do, what she hopes to get out of sorority life, etc. This will help her visualize her experience so she can join the chapter that best suits her.
