Being in a sorority offers huge experiences, but with huge experiences comes responsibilities. Women will be expected to engage in the following to maintain their membership:

  • Attend regular meetings on Tuesdays

  • Participate in Community Service and Philanthropy events

  • Meet financial obligations

  • Maintain academic standards

  • Uphold the values of the organization

  • Have FUN!

 

What is Formal Recruitment?

 

Have you ever wanted to get a taste of sorority life? Or maybe you are interested in joining a sorority here at Emporia State? Either way you will want to sign up for Formal Recruitment! Through this process you will have the opportunity to meet the amazing women in the Panhellenic Association and get a taste of what Sorority Life is really like. This process is a week long adventure where you will get the chance to meet the women of each chapter, tour chapter houses, and get a glimpse into the unique and remarkable sisterhood of each of the chapters. By the end of this experience not only will you have found some of the best friends you will ever have, but you will also have found your home-away-from home. Signing up may take a little time, so sign up when you have a few minutes. The cost to go through Formal Recruitment is $20.00, which includes a a gift, pizza, and snacks! Get ready for the time of your life, because the deadline for Fall Formal Recruitment 2016 is August 17th by midnight! 

Confusing Terms:

 

Alumnae: Members of a sorority who have already graduated. 

 

Bid: Invitation to join a sorority

 

Active Member: Members of a sorority who have completed membership training, are initiated, and are still collegiate members. 

 

Chapter: A membership unit of a sorority. 

 

MRABA: This stands for Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement. At the end of the formal recruitment process women will sign this card stating which sorority they would like to be a member of. 

 

Mutual Selection Process: the process in which both the potential members and the individual sororities are making choices. Potential members will make decisions regarding sororities they want to attend and the sororities will make decisions regarding the women they want to invite to their events

 

New Member: A woman who has accepted their bid to join a sorority, but is not yet initiated. 

 

Panhellenic Recruitment Director: the member of the Panhellenic Association Executive Council who is responsible for coordinating and implementing recruitment. 

 

Rho Gamma: A woman who has no contact with her own sorority during Formal Recruitment. She is in charge of helping those who go through Formal Recruitment and serves as a guide to them.
